{Life Updates} My Apologies

Sunday, September 30, 2012 with 1 comment

I just wanted to take to time to apologize for the lack of updates lately. I actually just moved from Texas to the middle of nowhere, Nevada, so I've really been devoting most of my time to my family and a job search. Thank you guys so much for sticking with me - I'll try and make sure to set aside more time for this blog soon, but I really am still worried about finding a job in time to continue paying my student loans. I'll keep you updated!

Top 10 Bookish People I Want To Meet

Tuesday, September 18, 2012 with 13 comments

A Meme By The Broke and the Bookish

1) John Green - I have wanted to meet him forever!!! He's not only one of my favorite authors, but one of my favorite people.

2) Hank Green - So he may not be a book author, but he has written articles for magazines, etc. and has an Eco-awareness blog. Plus, he reads a lot, so he's bookish. John and Hank would be so much fun to hang out with!

3) Neil Gaiman - I really respect him as a writer, and I would love to have a chat with him.

4) Maureen Johnson - Because she is hilarious and awesome, and it would be a blast!

5) & 6) Ann Kingman & Michael Kindness - The hosts of one of my favorite bookish podcasts, Books on the Nightstand. I love listening to them and their recommendations, and would love to talk books with them and swap recs.

7) Louis Sachar - I loved reading this man's books as a kid! In fact, I still do - especially Holes and the Sideways Stories books. He is one of the best children's authors I've ever read from, and the humor in his books is good enough for adults to laugh at as well. I just wanna get inside his mind....

8) J.K. Rowling - Because I have a few Harry Potter-y questions to ask her...

9) Diana Peterfreund - Because she seems like a cool person, and I'm a fan of her books

10) Elizabeth Gilbert - I'd love to talk about her travels, and swap stories from our times in Italy

{Influenster} Naturals VoxBox 2012

Friday, September 14, 2012 with No comments
Okay, so I'm a little excited because today I just received my first VoxBox from Influenster! Influenster is a site where you can create an account to receive free product samples in exchange for honestly reviewing the products you receive (products are a mixture of full-size and sample-size items). All of these products were received for testing purposes. I can't wait to try each and every one of these products! Here's what I got, if you're curious:

All of these products sound interesting, and I can't wait to try them out! I'll be making a post in the future with a brief review of each product, for those of you that may be interested. I think I'm most excited to try the Coconut Shine & Refine Lotion by Desert Essence - my hair could really use the shine!

Now, the Influenster site just got re-vamped, and I think it looks great - it's a whole lot more interactive! I love the new points system, where members can earn points for writing reviews and posting them either on YouTube, their personal blog, or even the Influenster site. Sometimes it can take a while for your earned points to update, but as this is a brand new feature, I'm sure the kinks will be worked out. Right now, I'm really digging it!

So, are any of you guys signed up with Influenster

The Unnaturals by Jessica Meigs
Expected publication: October 1st 2012

Riley Walker is one of the world's best covert operatives, employed by a top-secret sector of the U.S. government known only as the Agency. Highly skilled and lethal in a fight, Riley is fiercely independent and adamant that she work alone after the mysterious death of her partner in an assignment gone wrong.

All that changes when she's thrust onto a new assignment investigating the deaths of twenty-seven Agency operatives. Forced to work with twelve-year Agency veteran Scott Hunter--a stickler for following orders and a loner by nature--Riley doesn’t get a chance to protest before she and her new partner are passed to a sector of the Agency that they never knew existed. As they investigate the murders, Riley and Scott learn that there’s more to the Agency than they ever suspected.

They discover the existence of monsters right out of their wildest dreams.
