Wow - I sure read a lot of books this month. In fact, I've just completed my goal of reading 52 books for the year! This is pretty awesome, considering I was in a big reading slump once summer started, and had been about 13 books or so behind in my reading goals. I feel like I cheated a bit, since the only reason I read so many books was because I had started the Lux and the Bloodlines series, both of which are impossible to stop once they've been started.
Thoughts On September
Wow - I sure read a lot of books this month. In fact, I've just completed my goal of reading 52 books for the year! This is pretty awesome, considering I was in a big reading slump once summer started, and had been about 13 books or so behind in my reading goals. I feel like I cheated a bit, since the only reason I read so many books was because I had started the Lux and the Bloodlines series, both of which are impossible to stop once they've been started.
But one thing I'm disappointed about is that I'm still really behind on my reviews. I haven't written a book review in ages, and I'm actually in the process of tweaking how I write them. Normally, I just read a book and write the review afterwards, but I think that now I am either going to have to keep a notebook to write down my thoughts while I'm reading, or start using my voice recorder to record my thoughts vocally. I tend to have stronger thoughts while I'm actually reading the book then I do once I am finished with it, and I don't want to leave anything out in my reviews. If you have any tips, I'll be glad to hear them!
Also, OCTOBER STARTS TOMORROW!!! Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I will be on the lookout for any Halloween-related blog events I can find. If you know of any, please let me know - I'd love to check them out!

ReplyDeleteI tend to try to write reviews as quickly as possible after finishing a book (usually within 24 hours) so everything is still fresh in my mind and I won't forget about anything. It is kind of hard to keep with though and requires a lot of discipline.
Thank you! I will have to aim higher next year, it seems. I read way more since starting this blog than I ever have before....
DeleteAnd that's what I'd normally do, but I honestly don't have the discipline, lol. I applaud you on that! I think I'm going to write up a list of review techniques I like and try them each out to see what I like better.
I may even try out a video review, but I honestly have never used my laptop's webcam, so I'm not sure about the quality. I just know that I am way more engaging when I talk about books than when I write about them, which is why I feel I should attempt either vlogging, or writing out reviews that are based on my audio-recorded thoughts of them. If that makes sense :/
That sounds like a great idea! If you tend to ramble a bit (as most people do) you can always edit it out. It might help if you're dreading the sitting down and writing your thoughts on paper part. Hope you find a way that works for you (:
DeleteWhat I usually do for reviews now is start typing up the review as I'm reading the book. I make notes as I go, and just save the review post as a draft. When I'm finished, I take those notes and write them up as the finished review and then publish it. Doing it this way, I don't forget anything. (Of course, I read e-books on my laptop, so it's easier for me to have access to the draft post as I'm reading. I guess I could always keep notes in a notebook or something, if I were reading paperbacks.)
ReplyDeleteI have to review books soon after finishing them, though. I'm so bad at remembering what happened that if I left it for more than a few days, I'd forget half of what went on in the book!
